Don’t scare yourself

Feeling scared is normal but don’t let your fear drag you down. Always remind yourself that everything is fine. You are safe and secured and there’s no ghost or burglars lurking around. If you truly need help, your smartphone can always help you out. Breathe, relax and don’t over think too much.

Add extra layer of security

Not all apartment complex or buildings are created equal. Some has adequate security features while some don’t have. If you live alone, add some extra layers of security inside your home. Peepholes, deadbolt locks, chain locks and alarm systems can beef your security up. Having these in place can help make you feel more safe and secured.

Train yourself to be more organized

Proper organization is a key to a more successful solo living. Don’t let your stuff and things get out of control. Make it a habit to organize everything before leaving or going to bed. A clean and well organized apartment can make you feel more relaxed and comfortable.

Be nice and friendly with your neighbors

Befriend your neighbors. If you live alone, your neighbors can become your closest friend that you can run to in times of trouble. They can also look out for you or look for your apartment unit while you are out of town. If your apartment community has a community pool or some sort of gathering area/park, make sure to visit there once in a while. Introduce yourself, smile and have some fun with everyone.

Write down and keep note of important numbers

Have a list of emergency numbers posted on your wall. You can either print them in a piece of paper or just write them down on a whiteboard. Keep these numbers in an area you can easily see so when you need someone for some immediate help, you can easily dial their contact numbers.

Learn some skills

Although you can always call someone to fix something for you, living alone is a perfect opportunity for you to learn some new skills. Check out Youtube for some tutorial videos on how to easily fix something. There are lots of DIY tutorials online so give it a try!

Stick to your budget

Set a realistic budget and stick with it. Remember, you are the only one who’ll pay for the rent, utility bills and groceries. Compute them all up and see if your budget is quite ok with it.

With these tips and advice, living alone for the first time can be really easy and comfy.
