August 12th, 2018

Small homes and apartments are becoming more and more popular nowadays.  Because it’s easier to maintain and manage (not to mention the lower cost to get one), more people are now choosing to live in a small space.

But some people find it hard to live a comfortable life in a small space. They feel like the space is not enough to hold all of their stuff and items in a neat and organize way.  This makes them shy away in choosing small space thus ending up renting a more expensive home or apartment.

Renting a small-space home or apartment doesn’t mean less room for all your stuff and belongings. With the help of below tips and hacks, you can make your small rented space appear and look bigger than it is.

Apartment Bedroom with Floating Shelves

Utilize ceiling shelves

Claim that vertical space above your furniture. Install some built-in shelves to store your seldom used items or decorative pieces. You can use this area to hold all your books, frames and other stuff that you don’t use on a daily basis.

Between the studs

In a small space home or apartment, sometimes, finding a place to store the broom can be challenging. This is where claiming the space in between studs can be really helpful. In here, you can store some of your cleaning supplies, toiletries and even kitchen stuff that you might not need anytime soon.

Corner shelves

The corners of your home can become an additional storage space or area by installing floating shelves on it. The floating corner shelves can hold some of your small items and accessories like photo frames, small books or small potted plants.

Behind the door hooks and rods

Claim the space behind your door by installing a towel rod on it or some hooks.  This space can hold up some of your towels, small items and accessories.

Use large mirrors

Much has been said about the mirrors when it comes to making a small home appear bigger. The larger the mirror is, the better the effect will be.

Living Room Mirror

Above-the-door shelf

This is quite effective on the bathroom area. Install an above the door shelf to hold your towels and toiletries.

Under the bed storage

Clear plastic containers placed under the bed are a huge addition in your storage space. Here, you can store seldom or seasonal items. Just label them accordingly for easier identification.

Claim your wall

Use your wall to your advantage. You can set up hooks, rods or floating shelves on it for added storage space. Some even uses it to store their big bicycles. Just be creative with it and surely you’ll find a way to use your wall as an effective storage space.

Storage is always important. I lived in a 670 sq foot apartment before I bought my condo, luckily it had a walk-in closet in my bedroom and a few other closets.
